firstly, we have to find out mean of given data
we know,
mean=\frac{sum\:of\:terms}{number\:of\:terms}\\\\or,\overline{x}=\frac{\sum{x_i}}{n}\\\\=\frac{38+70+48+42+55+63+46+54+44}{10}\\\\=\frac{500}{10}\\\\=50
now, see attachment ,
we get,
absolute value of the deviation of xi from mean.
now,
MD=\frac{\sum{|x_i-\overline{x}|}}{n}\\\\=\frac{84}{10}\\\\=8.4
