Question 2. Read the following passage and answer the following questions:
We hear from our elders that there was a time when sparrows used be everywhere.
House sparrows hopping around the garden or balcony presented a lively and heart-
warming sight
Today, the familiar and much-loved house sparrow is disappearing from urban and rural
areas. These small birds are social beings that live in residential colonies, not away from
human habitation. They make the nests in bushes, trees and even under the lower edges
of a roof that stick out over the walls. However, there is a rapid decline in the number of
sparrows in metropolitan cities. It is because of the loss of nesting sites, non-availability of
food (insects that are destroyed by using pesticides), an ever growing population of stray
dogs, cats, etc. The huge development of cities, loss of green cover and industrial pollution
have made these chirruping little birds go away from our neighbourhood.
