In triangle ABD,
By Pythagorean theorem
AB² = AD² + BD² = 12²+16² = 144+256 = 400
AB= √400 = 20 cm
Area of ABD = 1/2bh = 1/2*16*12 = 96 cm²
In triangle ABC,
s= (a+b+c)/2 = (20+52+48)/2 = 120/2 = 60cm
Area = √s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c) = √60*(60-20)(60-52)(60-48) =√60*40*8*12 = √230400 = 480cm²
Area of shaded region = (480-96)cm² = 384cm²
