It was too late for the unfortunate bowler to stop himself. The ball flew out of his hand like a bullet and hit third slip, who didn't look, full pitch on the kneecap. "Wah", a yell of agony, third slip began hopping about like a stork until he tripped over a tussock of grass and fell on his face in a bed of nettles, from which he sprung up again with another drum splitting yell. The blacksmith himself flung forward by his own momentum and threw off balance.
