out of 8 persons in committee, one person can be chosen for chairman in 8 ways.

Now,
a person cannot hold more than one position .i.e. out of 7 person , one person can be chosen for vice - chairman in 7 ways .

Hence, by Fundamental principle of counting ,
number of ways = 8 × 7 = 56 ways.
