Question 59:
A car is moving on a straight road with uniform acceleration. The speed of the car varies with time as follows :
Time (s) : 0 2 4 6 8 10
Speed (m/s) : 4 8 12 16 20 24
Draw the speed-time graph by choosing a convenient scale. From this graph :

(i) Calculate the acceleration of the car.
(ii) Calculate the distance travelled by the car in 10 seconds.

Explanation:

a = (v-u) / t

  where v is final velocity

v = displacement / time

u is initial velocity

Answer:

(i) 2 meter per squared second

(ii) 40 meter

Explanation:

(i) We know the formula for acceleration i.e,

A = V/T

A = acceleration

V = Velocity difference between two intervals

T = Time difference

A = 4/2 =2 meter per squared second

(ii) If we can know the speed and the time taken we can easily know the distance travelled,

D= S x T

D= Distance

S= Speed

T= Time

D= 4 x 10 = 40 meter
