Answer:
There won’t be any significant change at the room temperature when metallic copper is added to sodium nitrate and conc.H2SO4.
But when the three are heated together, plenty of reddish brown fumes of nitrogen dioxide will evolve. The nitrate salt reacts with conc.H2SO4 to form nitric acid, which then reacts with the metal to form copper nitrate and nitrogen dioxide.
NaNO3 + H2SO4 = NaHSO4 + HNO3
Cu + 4HNO3 = Cu(NO3)2 + 2NO2 + 2H2O
This type of reaction is usually suggested as a confirmatory test for nitrate salts in classical salt analysis. Any nitrate will liberate reddish brown fumes of NO2 on heating with copper turnings and conc.H2SO4.
