Answer:
Solid are characterized by structural rigidity and resistance to changes of shape or volume. Unlike a liquid, a solid object does not flow to take on the shape of its container, nor does expands to fill the entire volume available to it like a gas

Question :
Explain the properties of Solids.
Answer :
- Solids are rigid and incompressible : Because in solids constituent particles are closely packed and there is virtually no space between the particles . So they cannot be compressed .
- A solid has a definite shape and volume : Because in solids constituent particles are held together by a strong cohesive force .
- Solids in general have high density : They have higher density than liquids and much higher than of solids . This is because of the intermolecular forces present in them .
- In solids intermolecular forces are strong : This is because they are held together by a strong force of attraction .
- Solids have high melting point : Due to strong cohesive force , solids have high melting point .
