question for all kvians.

An element ‘A’ exists as a yellow solid in standard state . It forms a volatile
hydride ‘B’ which is a foul smelling gas and is extensively used in qualitative
analysis of salts. When treated with oxygen , ‘B’ forms a oxide ‘C’ which is

colourless and pungent smelling gas. The gas when passed through acidified

KMnO4Solution , decolourises it. ‘C’ gets oxidised to another oxide ‘D’ in the
presence of heterogeneous catalyst . Identify A,B,C,D and also give the
chemical equations of reaction of ‘C’ with acidified KMnO4 solution and for

conversion of ‘C’ in to ‘D’.

Virzin accepts your challenge, get ready to lose..XD

PS: I am an ex-kvian so i am qualified to answer this question

A=S8  (suplhur)

B=H2S

C=SO2

D=SO3

For the equations refer NCERT chapter D and F block elements

How did i get this answer:

first method:Google it...XD

PS: just kidding ...didn't copy it from the web

second method: i know that sulphur is yellow in colour and used in labs extensively for conc. acid test and dil acid test and other tests.

third method: as soon as i saw pungent smell with colourless gas i confirmed it is SO2. And when i read it was oxidised by KMnO4 then i became totally sure of it.

Hope it helps.

Btw i am an old acquaintance of u whom u had blocked once. I apologize for anything rude that i did.

Good day.
