Given Question :-

In the given figure, line p is parallel to q, and x is its transversal. Find the value of a.

\large\underline{\sf{Solution-}}

As it is given that,

line p is parallel to q, and x is its transversal

We know, sum of cointerior angles is supplementary.

As 2a and 4a, forms pair of cointerior angles.

So,

\rm :\longmapsto\:4a + 2a = 180 \degree

\rm :\longmapsto\:6a = 180 \degree

\bf\implies \:\:a = 30 \degree

Additional Information :-

Two lines p and q are said to be parallel if distance between them are same. If t is transversal then

1. Pair of corresponding angles are equal

2. Pair of alternate interior angles are equal.

3. Sum of cointerior are supplementary.

The two angles mentioned ( 4a° and 2a° ) are co- interior angles.

So, in a parallel lines with a transversal the property of co-interior angles is .

x+y = 180°

So, here the co-interior angles are 4a and 2a .

We can say that ,

4a+2a=180°

6a = 180°

a = 180°/4

a = \frac{180}{4}

a = 30°

Hope it helps friend !
