Solution :
Given x = √13 + 2√3 ----(1)
1/x = 1/(√13+2√3)
Rationalising the denominator,
we get
= (√13-2√3)/[(√13+2√3)(√13-2√3)]
= (√13-2√3)/[(√13)²-(2√3)²]
= (√13-2√3)/( 13 - 12)
= (√13-2√3)------(2)
Now ,
x-1/x = √13+2√3 -(√13-2√3)
= √13+2√3-√13+2√3
= 2×2√3
= 4√3
Therefore,
x-1/x = 4√3
