Here's your answer! ❤
Answer 1:- Jams and jellies are added with more sugar because they are preserved by it. Sugar reduces the moisture content which inhabits the growth of bacteria which spoil food. And it is called plasmolysis. ✌
Answer 2:- Pickles are added with more salt because the salts act as preservatives in pickles as it checks the growth of bacteria.
Answer 3:- As I said salts act as preservatives. It also works in chips like uncle chips. And salt also makes the taste of chips pleasant and in result of addictness of salty chips! Thaswhy chips are added with salts.
Answer 4:- Saltwater fish can't survive in freshwater because their bodies are highly concentrated of salt solution (too much for freshwater). The water would flow into their body until all their cells accumulate so much water that they bloat and die eventually. This is called Osmosis.
Answer 5:- Salt acts as a killer on the weeds too because it kills all the weeds and because there are not ugly weedic plants so its garden becomes beautiful. Salt dehydrates plants and disrupts the internal water balance of plant cells. Salt is best used for small-scale gardening where it will be easily diluted by rain or watering, however.

ANSWER
In the process of making pickles, jams and jellies addition of more concentration of salt and sugar takes place. Because of the hypertonic nature of these items, the food spoiling organisms such as yeast, moulds cannot grow on them. When a cell placed in hypertonic solution, it undergoes plasmolysis. In the same manner, due to the high concentration of salt and sugar, they preserve for a long time.
