Ok let's assume the price of one pipe is x

profit \: on \: one \: pipe \:  = 20 \: percent \:  \\ so \: percentage \: of \: it \: according \: to \: c.p \:  =  \frac{12 \: x}{10}  \\  \frac{12 \: x \: }{10}  \:  = 1.20 \\ x \:  =  \frac{12.0}{10}  = 1.0

Let's assume C.P of pipe on which loss was incurred is y

loss \: on \: pipe \:  = 20 \: percent \\ so \: percentage \: of \: it \: according \: to \: c.p \:  =  \frac{8y}{10} \\  \frac{8y}{10}  = 1.20 \\ y =  \frac{12}{8}  = 1.5

So we can see the loss occurred on y is 30 cents and profit occurred on x is 20 cents

So overall loss : 10 cents

For 1st pipes, S.P =1.20 , profit =20 %

C.P=S.P−profit

CP=1.20−20%×CP

∴120% CP=1.20

∴CP=  \large\frac{1.20}{120} ×100

∴CP¹ =1.00

For 2nd =s.p+loss

CP=1.20+200 % CP

∴80% CP=1.20

∴CP=  \large\frac{1.20}{80}×100

=1.50

∴ Total CP=1.00+1.50=2.50

Total SP=1.20+1.20=2.40

∴ He suffered 10 cents loss.

Answer : (d) lost 10 cents
