My question number is 108. This question is on ethics or Hindu cultures. Write the importance of the number "108" in Hindu culture or in purans. Take reference from some purans if you are able.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE NUMBER "108" IN HINDU CULTURE-

According to the Indian mythology , the number 108 plays an important role in Hindu culture . The number "108" has been considered as a sacred number in Hinduism.


According to Shiv Puran, There are 108 karanas mean poses in his Tandava which is known as cosmic dance.


All 'jap malas' includes 108 beads or stones and the number is used to count the repetition of a mantra or prayer . All mantra or prayers chanted 108 times .


According to Astronomically , There are 27 constilletions and each of them has 4 directions and when we multiply both of them ( 27 x 4 ) it equals to 108.  

When we multiply the number 108 to the diameter of the sun it equals to the distance between the Sun and the Earth. In the same way, when we multiply the number 108 to the diameter of the moon it equals to the distance between the Earth and the moon . The diameter of the sun is 108 times the diameter of the earth.  .


According to the Indian Astrology,  we have 12 houses and 9 planets and  when we multiply both of them (12x9) it equals to the number 108.


There are 108 followers who are known as gopies or maid servants for lord Krishna . .


There are 54 alphabets in Sanskrit , each has masculine and feminine known as Shiva and Shakti and twice of the number 54 becomes 108 .


There are 108 sacred sites throughout the India .

There are 108 Puranas and 108 Upanishads .


There are 108 poses for lord Shiva dance which is known as Bharat Natyam.


The number "108" plays an important role not only in Hinduism but also in Sikhism , Jainism and Buddhism.
