Or, 1200 x 28 - 1200 x 4 = (1200 - x) 32

or, 33600 - 4800 = 38400 - 32x

or, 28800 = 38400 - 32x

or, 32x = 38400 - 28800

or, 32x = 9600

or, x = 9600/32

x = 300

So, 300 soldiers left the fort.
