The shaded region of the given diagram represents the lawn in front of the house. Find the area to be laid with grass.
(i) Find the length and the breadth of the lawn
(ii) Hence or otherwise find the area of the flower beds

to find the length = area ÷ breadth

Let the figure be:

(i) The length of the lawn = 30-2-2=26 m

The breadth of the lawn = 12-2=10 m

(ii) The shaded area in the figure is the required area,

Then, the area of the flower bed is,

A = 10 * 2 + 10 × 2 + 30 × 2

= 20 + 20 + 60

= 100 m²
