Original price = 2500  after 5 percent discount new price=( 100-5)/100×2500 =2375  3 percent more discount on 2375= (100-3)/100×2375=2303.75  If directly 8 % discount was given then price =100-8/100 ×2500= 2300  It was more efficient to give 5% then 3% dicount rather than directly 8% cause it was cheaper so the businessman was smart
