Given:-

  • Sum of two numbers is 95.
  • Their difference is 85.

To find:-

  • The two numbers.

Solution:-

  • Let the two numbers be x and y.

ATQ,

Sum of two numbers is 95.

  • \sf{x + y = 95}⠀⠀⠀⠀........(i)

Difference of two numbers is 85.

  • \sf{x - y = 85}⠀⠀⠀⠀........(ii)

Subtracting eq. (ii) from eq. (i)

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{(x + y) - (x - y) = 95 - 85}}}

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{x + y - x + y = 10}}}

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{2y = 10}}}

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{y = \dfrac{10}{2}}}}

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{\boxed{\red{y = 5}}}}}

Putting the value of y in eq. (i)

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{x + y = 95}}}

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{x + 5 = 95}}}

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{x = 95 - 5}}}

\large{\tt{\longmapsto{\boxed{\red{x = 90}}}}}

Therefore,

  • two numbers are 90 and 5.

Hence,

  • Option (b) is correct.

Given

  • Sum of two numbers is 95.
  • Difference of two numbers is 85.

To find

  • The required two numbers.

Solution

  • Let the first number be x.
  • Let the second number be y.

According to the question

Sum of two numbers is 95.

\tt\longrightarrow{x + y = 95}⠀⠀....[1]

Difference of two numbers is 85.

\tt\longrightarrow{x - y = 85}⠀⠀.....[2]

\: \: \: \: \sf\underline{Subtracting\: [2]\: from\: [1]\:}

\tt\longmapsto{(x + y) - (x - y) = 95 - 85}

\tt\longmapsto{\cancel{x} + y - \cancel{x} + y = 10}

\tt\longmapsto{y + y = 10}

\tt\longmapsto{2y = 10}

\tt\longmapsto{y = \dfrac{10}{2}}

\bf\longmapsto{y = 5}

\: \: \: \: \sf\underline{Substituting\: the\: value\: of\: y\: in\: equation\: [1]}

\tt\longmapsto{x + 5 = 95}

\tt\longmapsto{x = 95 - 5}

\bf\longmapsto{x = 90}

Hence,

  • First number = x = 90
  • Second number = y = 5

Therefore,

  • Option (b) is the correct option.
