Answer:

Aluminothermic reactions are exothermic chemical reactions using aluminium as the reducing agent at high temperature.

The process is industrially useful for production of alloys of iron.

A process of producing great heat and strong chemical reduction by oxidizing finely divided aluminum with oxygen taken from another metal, this metal being thus reduced from its oxide (as molten iron is obtained from iron oxide in welding by the Thermit process) is called Aluminothermy.

The thermite Reactions in which Aluminium is used as a reducing agent are known as Aluminothermic reactions.

The process in which Aluminium is used to reduce the metal oxide to metallic form are called aluminothermy.

The Aluminothermic process in which iron oxide is reduced to iron is used in following purposes :

★ In welding processes to join the broken iron pieces.

★ In joining cracked machine parts.

★ In joining railway tracks.
