THE KHILAFAT MOVEMENT

• The Khilafat movement was organized by the Ali brothers - Muhammad Ali and

Shaukat Ali in protest against injustices done to Turkey after the first world War.

• The Khilafat leaders put pressure on the British government to give better

treatment to Turkey.

• Through this demand, Muslims were drawn into national Movement in large

numbers.

• This movement became the part of the national movement.

• The Congress leaders joined the agitation and popularized it.

The Pro Changers

• Pro changers were C. R. Das, Motilal Nehru and Vithalbhai Patel.

• They wanted the Congress to take part in the elections, join the government and

then work to destroy the working of the legislature from inside.

• They wanted to enter the legislature and them to make it impossible for the

government to function by opposing all its policies.

PURNA SWARAJ RESOLUTION

• In December 1929, the Congress held the annual session at Lahore. Jawaharlal

Nehru was the president of this session.

• In it the Congress declared ' Purns Swaraaj as it's ultimate goal.

• It asked all the Congressmen and Nationalists to resign from the legislature and

not to participate in the forthcoming election.

• It was decided that 26 January would henceforth be observed as ' Independence Day's every year.
