Generally, you try to put the fire out. However if you are being shot at, it's not so easy.

Reminiscent in many ways of the story of Boy Seaman Jack Cornwall, who stayed at his gun on HMS Chester during the battle of Jutland, even though the rest of the gun crew had been killed. Mortally wounded, he died ashore, and was awarded the VC posthumously.
