considering that the average velocity and speed is needed to be calculated for the whole journey
( I cant see your whole picture clearly...so I will assume that the 2 cities are "A" & "B" )

A-------------------------------------B

lets say the distance from A to B is "a"

now definition of distance is ..when a vehicle moves from A to B , then again from B to A..the total lenth its covered

which means when it goes from A to B..it will be "a"..and then it return..again it will be "a"..hence finally the total distance will be ( a+ a) = "2a"

now if we co sider the displacement when a vehicle moves from A to B and return to A.. the definition of displacement says the dispalcement is the shortest distance between the initial and the final position of a body

now the initial position is A..and the final position is also A..in the end..the total displacement is 0 ( a - a)

now for finding speed.. speed = total disatance / total time

velocity = total displacement / total time

hipe this helps :)

vishagh: Its a numericle problem, u shud solve it..!!! Plzz
isuru96: yes..it is indeed a numericle problem..but just simply solving it would do rarely any help for the student who post the question..isn't it ?..I did my best to give all the things and hinta need to solve the problem..if anyone tries it and tell me at which point things get difficult..i could try to guide him from that point onwards :)
