External respiration, also known as breathing, involves both bringing air into the lungs (inhalation) and releasing air to the atmosphere (exhalation). During internal respiration, oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged between the cells and blood vessels.

Nose, Mouth and Throat (Pharynx)

Explanation:

  • The network of tissues and organs that help you to  breathe is called respiratory system. It helps our body to get oxygen from the air so our organs can function properly. It also removes waste gases such as carbon dioxide from the blood.
  • The respiratory air enters the respiratory system through nose and mouth. It then passes through throat(pharynx)  and then voice box ( Larynx). Larynx is covered by a flap called epiglottis that automatically closes when food is swallowed and prevents drink or food from entering the airways.
