Solution :-

Let us assume that, Rachel has $ 8x in the beginning .

So,

→ Amount she spends on chocolates = (1/4) of $ 8x = (1/4) * 8x = $ 2x

and,

→ Amount she spends on pizza = (1/8) of $ 8x = (1/8) * 8x = $ 1x

then,

→ Total amount she spends = $2x + $1x = $ 3x .

therefore,

→ Amount left = $ 8x - $ 3x = $ 5x .

A/q,

→ $ 5x = $ 40

→ $ x = $ 8

hence,

→ Amount she have at the beginning = $ 8x = 8 * 8 = $ 64 (Ans.)
