Answer- The above questions are from the chapter 'Fractions' and 'Ratio and Proportion'.

Question 1: Radha was given 3+ 1/2 piece of cake and Rabina was given 1+ 1/3 piece of cake. Find the total amount of cake that was given to both of them.

Solution: Amount of cake given to Radha = 3 + 1/2

Amount of cake given to Rabina = 1 + 1/3

Total amount of cake given to both = 3 + 1/2 + 1 + 1/3

                                                         = 4 + 1/2 + 1/3

                                                         = (24 + 3 + 2)/6

                                                         = 31/6

                                                         = 5\frac{1}{6}

∴ Total amount of cake given to both Radha and Rabina = 5\frac{1}{6}

Question 2: Find the ratio of:-

a) 700 g to 3 kg

b) 2 hours to 90 minutes

Solution: a) We know that 1 kg = 1000 g

3 kg = 3000 g

700 g : 3 kg = 700 : 3000 = \frac{700}{3000} = \frac{7}{30} = 7:30

∴ Ratio of 700 g to 3 kg = 7:30

b) We know that 1 hour = 60 minutes

2 hours = 2 × 60 = 120 minutes

2 hours : 90 minutes = 120 minutes : 90 minutes = \frac{120}{90} = \frac{4}{3} = 4:3

∴ Ratio of 2 hours to 90 minutes = 4:3
