Radius of a circle with centre ‘O’ is 5 cm. Find the distance of a

chord from the centre if the length of is 8 cm​

Answer: 3cm

Length of the chord= 8cm

Radius= 5cm

Distance of chord from centre=Perpendicular distance b/w them = d

And we know that perpendicular to the chord from the centre bisects the chord.

See the attachment, In the triangle, the three sides are r, d and (8/2) I.e 4

we are gonna use Pythagoras theorem.

 \sf r^2-4^2=d^2 ~\\\\\sf =>25-16=d^2~\\\\\sf =>d^2=9 \\\\\sf => d=3
