You must know that equal chords are equidistant from the centre.
Draw a perpendicular line to one of the chord. You must also be well known that this perpendicular bisects the chord.Half the chord length = 8cm.
From centre draw a line to join the end of the chord.
Hence, a right triangle is formed.
Now use pythagoras theorem.
You will find that the distance is equal to 6 cm
For both chords adding the distance will give you 12cm as the answer.
