Answers
Given sentence: Rahul said to Meena, “The boys are not late”.
Indirect speech: Rahul told Meena that the boys were not late.
- We're asked to change the given sentence to indirect speech.
- First we have removed the inverted commas (“ ”) from the sentence.
- Next we have change the word "said to" as "told" in the sentence.
- Then, we should add suitable conjunction before the direct statement. So, "that" is added.
- Here, in direct speech, it is given in present simple tense. If the direct speech is in present simple tense, it should be changed to past simple tense in indirect speech. Hence, "are" is changed to "was".
- And finally the sentence should be ended with a full stop and we're done.
