1. railways make it possible to conduct multifarious activities like business,sight seeing,pilgrimage along with transportation of goods .

2. it is suitable for long distance travel.

3. plays an important role in national integration.

4.railways bind economic life of the country.

5. it accelerates the development of the industry and agriculture.

6. today the railways have become more imp. than all other means of transport put together.

Yes, it is true that railway is the main or the principal mode of transport in India because in railways there are facilities available from cheap to high cost and it also consist of the food facility, any of the goods can also be mobilised from one part of country to another and there are many more facility and factor for the development of railway
