2 easy and quick transport of bulky raw materials and finished products to the place of demand

3 it enables quick and efficient relief work on large scale during calamities

4 it provides the most comfortable and cost effective long distance transport for people across the country

5 being under the unified command of the central government the Indian railway transport is an important means of national integration among all people

disadvantages

1 railways lack the flexibility of routes .it is difficult to lay railway line on uneven terrain

2 long distance rail transport is more time consuming and tedious .

3 efficiency and success of rail transport depends upon the proper connectivity of road transport.

4 unlike road vehicles ,railway accidents results in large scale deaths.

5 they are a great cause of noise pollution.trains that run on coal and diesel cause a lot of air pollution
