rainwater harvesting refer to the practice of storing and using of rain water from the surface on which it falls.

in hills and mountains regions, people built diversion channels like the 'guls & kuls' of the western himalaya for agriculture.

in rajasthan 'roof rainwater harvesting' was commonly practise to store for drinking.

in arid and semi-arid regions, agriculture Field were converted into rain fed storage structure that allowed the water to stand & moisten the soil.

in the semi arid and arid regions of rajasthan, almost all the houses triditationally had underground tanks & tankas for storing drinking water.
