The Deccan Plateau is a large plateau in India, covering most of the southern parts of the country.

It is located between the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats, forming a downward-pointing triangle of the Indian sub-continent’s coastline.

The eastern region of the Western Ghats, lie in the rain shadow region. The east of the Sahyadris also lies in this rain shadow region.

The Western Ghats Mountain Range is very tall and blocks the moisture from the southwest monsoon from reaching the Deccan Plateau.

So the Deccan Plateau and east of the Sahyadris receive a very little rainfall.
