Shanu' s age = x+8

Sum of their ages
x+x+8 = 42
2 x+8 = 42
2 x = 42 - 8
2 x = 34
x = 34/2
x = 17

Rainu' s age = x = 17
Shanu' s age = x + 8 = 17+8 = 25
