He divided the land into two parts by drawing the boundary PQ,

where PQ II BC ,P is the midpoint of side AB  

AP=7cm ,BC =10cm,AC=11cm

To Find :  Length of the side PQ

Solution:

PQ II BC

In ΔAPQ  and  ΔABC

∠P  = ∠B           Corresponding angles

∠Q = ∠C          Corresponding angles

=> ΔAPQ  ~ ΔABC

Corresponding sides are proportional

AP/AB  = PQ/BC

P is the mid point of the side AB

AP = AB/2

=> AP/AB = 1/2

=> 1/2  = PQ/10

=> PQ = 5

Length of the side PQ = 5 cm
