Raja Ram Mohan Roy established Brahmo Sabha in 1828. This society was later renamed as Brahmo Samaj.
The Brahmo Samaj was established to
1) Teach that there is only one God.
2) Remove the evils of Hinduism.
3) Abolish Sati, female infanticide and other social evils.
Ram Mohan Roy established the institution on grounds, saying that religion should be practiced in a scientific manner. He taught that people should not believe in anything blindly. He also believed that men and women are equal.
