Economy, asked by anjalipancholi181325, 7 months ago

Rajiv is just graduated from a management institute in Rajasthan and has joined his family’s small business which employs 25 semi- skilled workers. During the first week on the job, his dad called him in and said, ‘Rajiv, I have had a chance to observe you working with the men and women for the past two days and although I hate to, I feel I must say something. You are just too nice to people. I know that this human behavior stuff has been taught to you at the institute, but it just does not work here. I remember when we discussed the Hawthorne studies when I was in the institute, everybody there got excited, but believe me, there is more to managing people than just being nice to them Answer the following question – a) How would you react to your father’s comments if you are Rajiv? b) Do you think Rajiv’s father understood and interpreted the Hawthorne studies correctly? Following is the explanation of both the questions:

Explanation:

(a)

  • If I were Rajiv, I would try to communicate respectfully with my father owing to his experience in the business. But at the same time, I would try to make him understand my standpoints for the business.

  • I believe that with perseverance and manner anybody can be conquered. I would like to tell my father that it is best for our business to behave well with our employees, and let them have some freedom to manage their work.

  • I would explain to him that if we treat our employees in a good mannerly way, they are more likely to perform better and thus making us more agile in achieving our business objectives.

(b)

  • I think Rajiv’s father has not understood the Hawthorne Studies properly. Hawthorne Studies indicate the socio-psychological aspects of human behaviour in any business.

  • Hawthorne studies show that people work better and more efficiently when certain conditions are provided to them. These situations can include better lighting, frequent breaks, a manager’s interest in employees' work, etc.

  • Hence we can say That Rajiv’s behaviour to his employees is nurturing and will definitely transfer to his business’s success, while his father has neither understood nor interpreted the Hawthorne Studies properly.
