Track = 400m

Total distance covered = 400*4

                                      =  1600m

Average Speed = Distance / Time = 1600/120

                          = 13.333...m/s

Displacement = 0

Average Velocity = Displacement / Time

                             = 0/120

                             = 0 m/s

The average speed of the boy is equal to 13.3 metre per second and the average velocity is equal to zero

Explanation:

  • The average speed can be defined as the ratio between the total distance covered to the total time taken. Here since the boy runs 4 times the total distance = 400x4= 1600
  • Average speed = 1600/120 = 13.33m/sec
  • The total displacement of the boy is equal to zero. Hence the the average velocity will be equal to zero because it is the ratio between the total displacement and the total time
