Given : Raju, Umesh and Sammi together score 190 runs in a match.

Their individual scores are in continued proportion.

Umesh and Sammi together score 10 runs more than Raju.

To Find:  their individual scores.

Solution:

Raju, Umesh and Sammi together score 190 runs in a match.

R + U + S = 190

Umesh and Sammi together score 10 runs more than Raju.

U + S = R + 10

=> R + R + 10 = 190

=> R = 90

U + S = R + 10

=> U + S = 100

R : U :  S

=> U² = RS

=>  U² = 90S

=> U² = 90 (100 - U)

=> U²  + 90U - 9000 = 0

=>  U²  + 150U - 60U - 9000 = 0

=> (U + 150)(U - 60) = 0

=> U = 60  as runs can not be negative

S = 40

Individual score:

Raju = 90

Umesh  = 60

Sammi = 40
