To Find:

The speed of the train

Solution:

The distance between Banglore and Chennai is constant. Let it be d.

We know that speed = Distance / Time

Let the time taken by Ram to reach Chennai via Bus and Train be tb and tt respectively.

Let the speed of the train be V

⇒ 40 = d / tb

and V = d / tt

Dividing the above equations,

\frac{40}{V} = \frac{tt}{tb}       - (1)

Since the time by bus is double the time by train,

tb = 2 X tt

Substituting in equation 1,

\frac{40}{V} = \frac{tt}{2 X tt}

or V = 40 X 2

= 80 km/hr

Hence, the speed of the train is 80 km/hr.
