98 is 56% of the total mark.

Total mark = 98 × 100/56 = 175

The maximum marks are 175

Given - Marks and percentage from total

Find - Maximum marks

Solution - Let the total marks be x. Now, percentage of total marks is what is scored by Ram. So, equating the two will give the value, which will be maximum marks.

Representing this in equation form -

56%*x = 98

 \frac{56}{100} x = 98

Now shifting 100 and 56 to Right Hand Side, where it will be placed in multiplication with numerator and denominator respectively.

x =  \frac{98 \times 100}{56}

Performing multiplication and division to find the value of x

x = 175

Hence, the maximum marks in Ram's exams was 175.
