Ten years ago their ages x - 10 and y - 10

x - 10 = (y - 10)/3

Cross multiplication

3x - 30 = y - 10

Substituting the value of x from Eq..1

3 (y/2) - 30 = y - 10

3y/2 - y = 30 - 10

(3y - 2y) / 2 = 20

Cross multiplication

y = 20 × 2

y ÷ 40

This father's age is 40 years

The son age x = y/2

x = 40/2 = 20

The son's age is 20 years.

Answer the father's age is 40 years and son's age is 20 years.
