Let original savings be x.

amount spent on a pair of trousers = quarter of savings =x/4

Savings left = 3x/4

Fraction spent on book = 2/5* (3x/4)

= 6x/20

Given ,cost of book = 180

Hence 6x/20= 180

x = (180* 20)/6=600

Hence Savings = 600
