Solution:

         NORTH

WEST                 EAST

            SOUTH

NORTH = 3 km

Took a right turn  and walked 4 km

=> EAST = 4 km

then he again took a right turn  and walked 2 km

=> SOUTH = 2 km  = - 2km  NORTH

NORTH = 3 - 2 = 1 km

EAST = 4 km
