Solution:

Given Ram wrote a fraction

Let the fraction be \frac{x}{y}.

Ram adds 2 to the numerator and denominator and gets \frac{7}{9}:

\frac{x+2}{y+2} = \frac{7}{9}

Transposing values:

\frac{7-2}{9-2} = \frac{5}{7}

Therefore, the fraction he wrote is \frac{5}{7}.

Verification:

Ram subtracts 3 from the numerator and denominator and gets \frac{1}{2}.

Substituting the fraction in the equation

\frac{5-3}{7-3} = \frac{2}{4}

\frac{2}{4} = \frac{1}{2}

Hence proved.
