*Assuming he painted the 4 walls and the ceiling of each room

Find the area of  room 1:

Dimension = 10m × 12m × 3.5m

Area of the ceiling = 10 x 12 = 120 m²

Area of the 4 walls = 2(10 + 12) x 3.5 = 154 m²

Total area of the room = 120 + 154 = 274 m²

Find the area of  room 2:

Dimension = 8m × 6m × 3.5m

Area of the ceiling = 8 x 6 = 48 m²

Area of the 4 walls = 2(8 + 6) x 3.5 = 98 m²

Total area of the room = 48 + 98 = 146 m²

Find the area of  room 3:

Dimension = 7m × 5m × 3.5

Area of the ceiling = 7 x 5 = 35 m²

Area of the 4 walls = 2(7 + 5) x 3.5 = 84 m²

Total area of the room = 35 + 84 = 119 m²

Find the total area:

Total area =  274 + 146 + 119  = 539 m²

(a) Find the money earned:

1 m² = Rs 30

539 m² = 30 x 539 = Rs 16170

(b) Find the amount of money given to the orphanage:

Money given = 1/5 x 16170 = Rs 3234

Answer: (a) Rs 16170 (b) Rs 3234
