SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

Ramesh saves 25% of his salary. His income is increased by 25% and he increases his expenditure by 10%. Find the percentage increase in his savings.

(a) 30%

(b) 50%

(c) 70%

(d) None of the above

EVALUATION

Let the income of Ramesh = Rs 100

Now Ramesh saves 25% of his salary.

∴ Savings of Ramesh = Rs 25

∴ Expenditure of Ramesh

= Rs ( 100 - 25 )

= Rs 75

Now his income is increased by 25%

∴ New salary of Ramesh

= Rs ( 100 + 25 )

= Rs 125

Again Ramesh increases his expenditure by 10%

New expenditure of Ramesh

 \displaystyle \sf{ =Rs. \:  \: 75 \times  \frac{110}{100}  }

 =  \displaystyle \sf{ Rs. \:  \: 82.5  }

∴ New savings

= Rs ( 125 - 82.5 )

= Rs 42.5

Increment in savings

= Rs ( 42.5 - 25 )

= Rs 17.5

∴ Rate of increase

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{17.5}{25}  \times 100 \:  \%}

 \displaystyle \sf{ = 70 \:  \%}

FINAL ANSWER

The correct option is (c) 70%

= Rs 17.5

∴ Rate of increases

→ 17.5/25 ×100%

→ 70%

The correct option is (c) 70%
