Farmer (Ramnath) grows peanuts after harvesting the wheat crops. But why?

  • First of all, wheat crops are high nutrition demanding crops. Once grown in a soil, they take up majority of the nutrients from the soil throughout the course of their growth.

  • Now, peanuts are leguminous crops. The roots of these crops associate themselves with nitrogen fixing bacteria and microorganisms.

  • The nitrogen fixing microorganisms are able to convert atmospheric nitrogen into compounds of nitrogen that can be used by the plants.

  • Hence, the leguminous crops are again able to restore the nutritional content of the soil.

  • So, the soil can be again used for wheat growth in the next season.
