A brief about Ranga's Marriage:
Ranga's Marriage is a great story written by Masti Venkatesh Iyengar, where he talks about how beautifully a village boy, Ranga, who returned to his village after studying in city was tactfully made to tie knots and develop feelings for a pretty girl, Ratna by his elderly colleague, Shyama.
Summary of Ranga's Marriage:
Ranga is a boy who lives in the village of Hoshali in Mysore. He goes to Bangalore for higher English- medium education. As he return to the village, all the villagers’ gather around his place to know if he's changed or not. However, to their utter disappointment, Ranga is the same as he was before leaving for the city.
He even greeted everyone with a 'Namaskar' and therefore everyone left. After the villagers leave Ranga’s house, the narrator stays back to talk with him.
Thus, they began talking and the narrator believed it would be a great idea to get Ranga married for he is not thinking of marriage as of now and wishes to marry only a mature and praiseworthy girl. Therefore, the narrator affirms to get Ranga married. He feels that Ratna would be a perfect match for Ranga. Ratna belongs to a big town and is an expert in playing musical instruments like veena and harmonium.
Therefore, he decides to call Ratna intentionally when Ranga was visiting him. Upon seeing Ratna, Ranga gets engrossed in her. However, the narrator pulls out some tricks out of his sleeves, lying to Ranga that she is married. This makes Ranga dejected as he begins to like her. As per the narrator’s plan, he takes Ranga to an astrologer.
The narrator has pre-planned everything with the astrologer. So, the astrologer asks questions to Ranga which makes him admit the fact that he likes Ratna. The main obstacle was that she was already married, as he was informed by the narrator. Anyway, the astrologer tells Ranga that he is in love with a girl whose name resembles something that is found in the sea, and takes Ratna's name. Upon hearing this, Ranga gets very happy yet sad as she is already married.
Thus, upon confirmation that Ranga loves Ratna, the narrator decides to set up their marriage. The narrator visits Ratna’s house to ask her hand in marriage for Ranga. Finally, the story sppeds up to ten years later where the narrator is visiting Ranga for his son’s third birthday. We come to know that Ranga and Ratna got married happily and named their son after the narrator, who made the marriage happen.
