Solution : For finding present age of Ranjana and Supriya :

Let, present age of Ranjana is 9 years older than Supriya.

Asume that age of Supriya be x.

Hence, present age of Supriya and Ranjana is :

• Supriya = x
• Ranjana = x + 9 ----( 1 )

We subtract 10 (years) from eq. ( 1 ) because 10 years ago first eq. becomes,

• Ranjana = (x + 9) - 10. ----( 2 )

Before ten years, age of Ranjana is twice the age of Supriya :

• Ranjana = 2 * (x - 10) ----( 3 )

Now, from eq. ( 2 ) and eq. ( 3 )

⟹ (x + 9) - 10 = 2 * (x - 10)

⟹ x + 9 - 10 = 2x - 20

⟹ x + 1 = 2x - 20

⟹ 1 + 20 = 2x - x

⟹ 21 = x i.e.

⟹ x = 21 years

Now, put value of x in eq. ( 1 )

• Ranjana = x + 9
• Ranjana = 21 + 9
• Ranjana = 30 years

Answer : Hence, present age of the Supriya is 21 years and age of the Ranjana is 30 years.
