The ratio of alive and dead in xylem is - 1:3

The ratio of alive and dead in phylum is - 3:1

Explanation:

The xylem consist mainly dead cells only parenchyma is living cells.

ie., they are

  • Xylem vessels
  • Tracheids
  • Xylem fibres
  • Xylem parenchyma

Xylem transfer only mineral and water to the upper part of plant. Xylem is the dead tissue at maturity , but no cell content . The tracheids conduct the water and are dead.

On the other hand phylum mainly consists of living cells , fibers are the only dead cells in phloem.

they include

  • Phloem parenchyma
  • Phloem fibers
  • Sieve cells
  • sieve tubes

Phloem transport food materials , they are living tissue , but not with the nucleus.
